Early Language Enrichment

Service Description

This group aims to increase the expressive vocabulary, language comprehension, and social interaction of children ages 12-24 months who are behind in meeting their communication milestones. Each week, toddlers and their parent will participate in a 1-hour group session that will teach parents how to foster early communication and get toddlers interacting with others and their environment through a variety of fun, engaging activities. Before the session activities begin, parents will be provided with key language strategies from a licensed speech therapist that can be used throughout the group activities and at home. Sessions will begin with a movement activity to get everyone up and engaged with the language around them. Children and their parents will then participate in a musical circle time activity to build exposure to language through music. Each session will consist of various stations that involve toys, crafts, games, sensory activities, or books. This will give parents the chance to use the tips that were provided within a real-life context. The speech therapist will continue to provide insight, and play with your toddlers to model research-proven language strategies during these activities. Handouts of strategies will be provided to help with carryover at home.
